Mascara Monday #5 Tarte Lights Camera Flashes review

Its that time again! Mascara Monday!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement mascara promises to do it all: curl, lengthen, and add volume to your lashes. I couldn't resist trying this bad boy.
The gold packaging is striking and feels more luxurious in hand than plastic tube mascaras.

The packaging in not this mascara's only unique feature.
This mascara debuts a plastic duel bristled wand and a two step application technique, similar (but better than) the CK One mascara I review earlier this year.

Step 1: Apply mascara using shorter bristles. This step adds volume.
Step 2: Lengthen your lashes using the longer, stiffer bristles.

1st coat using both steps

Look at that curl! No lash curler used, just this mascara!

2nd coat using both steps
I'm quite satisfied with the result, this mascara does everything it claims and doesn't smudge or flake off during the day. It creates and holds a curl and is easy to get off at the end of the night!

PROS:
Lengthening
curls
volumizes
doesn't flake
doesn't smudge
duel bristles wand
pigmentation
no clumping
packaging

CONS:
plastic bristle wand takes some getting used to

Revlon Color Stay moisture Stain Review

I might be a lip stain junkie. But cut me a break...who doesn't love a long wearing hue? Especially if it is also moisturizing your lips. Of course, I had to try the Revlon Color Stay Moisture Stain.

There are 12 shades in this collection, I picked up New York Scene, Milan Moment, and Cannes Crush.

I love the packaging. The clear container makes shade selection a breeze and its rectangular shape means no worrying about it rolling away. While this glossy stain offers a precision doe foot applicator, a mirror was my best friend during application as these are super pigmented.

These are non sticky and feel more like your lip are just wet. These go on smooth and don't feather.
During application these do have a slight scent which completely disappears once on.

NEW YORK SCENE is a deep Raspberry Red.

MILAN MOMENT is an orange leaning coral.

CANNES CRUSH is a strawberry pink.
Before
Directly after application
4 hours later

I was hoping for the intensity of the stain to last longer, but my lips still have a sheen to them and they till feel moisturized.

Pros:
streamlined packaging
moisturizing
sleek packaging
lightweight formula
wears evenly
no detectable scent on the lips
gorgeous color selection
easy to use applicator
doesn't feather
semi long lasting glossy finish
non sticky

Cons:
transfers easily right after application
wears unevenly if eat/drink too soon after application
Stain doesn't last long

Makeup Forever HD Second Skin Cream Blush in #225 Review

This past Spring Makeup Forever introduced high definition second skin blush in 15 shades. These blushers "melt" into the skin and look blushing from within.

Makeup Forever HD Blush in #225 Peachy Pink
I've never before delved into the world of cream blush, I was missing out. This formula is silky and creamy and just perfectly formulated.

Peaches and corals are my weakness, this one does not disappoint!
A little bit goes a very long way but if you use too much product, its easy to blend it out.

After about 5 hours after application.
Even after spending the afternoon in humid Florida, and my foundation is melting, this blush stayed put!

Pros:
easy to apply
natural look
build able
blend-able
long wearing
sleek packaging
great pigmentation
15 different shades to choose from in the line

Cons:
not a one

Tarte Lipsurgence lip Luster in Achiote

Moisturized lips are essential any time of year. As the warm Summer air begins to dissipate, pouty lips become harder to attain.  Of  course tinted lip balm is an good option for a bit of color, but if your looking to pack more of a punch Tarte LipSurgence lip lusters is the answer.

The packaging replicates the shade of the lip tint. This way you can distinguish between this and other shades of these lip tints you may have in your collection.
The "chubby stick" style packaging makes this lippie easy to apply, and like many others of its kind it twists up so you never need a sharpener.

Packed with moisturizing vitamins C, E and jojoba oil  Tarte LipSsurgence lip lusters glide on like butter and hydrate the lips for a non botox-y fuller lip effect that lasts for hours.

Achiote is a shimmering golden pink which is a lovely shade during any season.

There is an ever so slight scent of mint, but it is actually refreshing not offensive like it most other products.

Pros:
pigmentation
color selection
easy to apply
hydrating
anti aging
perfect for on the go
semi long wearing
full of natural ingredients
antioxidant packed
plumps lips
 very lightly scented
twist up applicator
cruelty free

Cons:
a bit pricey

LOVE IT!

Have you tried any shades from Tarte's LipSurgence line? What is your favorite shade?

Mascara Monday #4 L'Oreal Miss Manga Waterproof Mascara

What would mascara Monday's be without a review or two?

I have mascara's that I absolutely adore, but I love to try new products in some insane mission to find something even better.  I want the impossible, basically falsies without using falsies. Who am I kidding?

L'Oreal's Voluminous Miss Manga mascara boasts over sized anime doll type lashes.Waterproof Anime doll like lashes sounded like just what I am looking for.
I like the simple packaging and fun pop of color.

The wand is made of your traditional bristles in a tree shape.
The tree shape design is supposed to be great for coating the inner most corners of your lashes while fanning out the edge of the lashes.

Behold the "360 flexor brush".
L'Oreal's newest innovation which was created to aide in creating doll like lashes rotates 360 degrees.

Before

After 1 coat
My lashes appear longer and curled without a lash curling tool, but they are also clumping.

2 coats and 6 hours later...
My lashes are even more clumpy after 2 coats and after a few hours on an ordinary day there is noticeable smudging and flaking.

Pros:
Lengthening
curls
coats all lashes

Cons:
Flakes
clumps lashes together
smudges
spider lashes
tons of excess product on bottom of wand

In the end I didn't see the results that impress me in a mascara. I wasn't able to achieve the wide eyed doll like look I wanted. Instead I ended up with lashes that appeared less full, and a mess of flaking and smudging around my eyes.

Break Up!

Did you have better results with this mascara?

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Review and Swatches

Autumn is right around the corner, while I cannot believe Summer is coming to an end I am more than ready to transition from neons to hues with more depth.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark limited edition palette simply embodies Fall.

Snakes are not my favorite, but she is not your ordinary snake. She is the glamorous queen of the Tartelettes and I adore her.
This palette is slightly larger than my petite hands and offers a hinged mirror for added convenience.

Hello beautiful!
Included is a highlighter, bronzer, blusher and 6 shadows

It is really a shame, all these cute-sy names printed on a plastic insert...
which will just be lost after a few uses.

Highlight-Champagne-Lustre
Bronzer - Park Avenue Princess- Matte

Blush -Unleashed
 A Satin Nude Rose

Plum Away With Me,   Make a Mauve,     Bare to Explore

Bare to Explore-Matte
Bare to Explore is a pink beige which is very close to my natural skin tone. For me it makes a great subtle all over wash of color and perfect for blending.

Make A Mauve- Satin
Make a Mauve is a plum mauve and is great for all over the lid, in the crease, or for blending.

Plum away with me-Luster
Plum away with me is a dark plum which when used all over the lid creates a sultry vampy look and is stunning as a pop of color.

Don't Turn a-Brown, Tan-gled Up in You, Up to no Gold

Up to no Gold - Metallic
Up to No Gold is a true gold which works as a dazzling pop of color or even all over the lid for a glam night look.

Tan-gled Up in You- Matte
Tan-gled Up in You is a tan that works not only all over the lid, but as a crease color, and an eyebrow powder for blonde hair.

Don't Turn a-Brown- Matte
Don't Turn a-Brown is a dark brown that makes a great crease, outer v shade and could double as a brow powder for black haired beauties.

Pros:
Pigmentation
Color selection
Mixture of finishes
Compact design
Sturdy packaging
Large mirror
Natural ingredients
Cruelty free
Velvety texture
Wears all day
blend easily

Cons:
plastic insert
not suited for all skin tones

Love it!

Essence eyebrow designer

I have sparse, light eyebrows and while some simply use brow products to define, I use these products to have brows in the first place. There are tons of products on the market and I am always on the prowl for a brow product that is not only the right color, but one that appears natural and not caked on.

Picking up some of my favorite polishes by Essence I noticed a collection of eyebrow pencils for less than 3 bucks. I was skeptical but I figured, if it works I have a super affordable brow product if not I didn't loose much!

The Essence Eyebrow Designer comes in 3 shades black, brown, and blonde.

I picked up the blonde shade
Which turned out to be the perfect match with my dark golden blonde hair.

It is a creamy wax pencil which gives off great pigmentation even with the lightest touch. The tip makes it simple to create thin natural looking strokes.
Before

After

And the blending brush on the back helps blend any too dark strokes for flawless brows!

Pros:
Waxy Texture
great pigmentation
color match
brush on back for blending
easy to use
thin tip
long lasting
natural looking

Cons:
Needs sharpening periodically

LOVE IT!

Have you tried this brow pencil? I would love to know what brow products are your favorite!

Mascara Monday #3 How to Revive Mascara

Welcome Back to Mascara Monday! Its been a while, but I am so happy to be back!

Today I want to touch on how to revive mascara that has dried up before its time. You know what I'm talking about...that mascara you bought a month ago used twice and lost it in you purse or overflowing makeup drawer.  You find it remember how much you adore it, then you apply it. Only this time its too dry  which is causing it to flake and clump.

No es bueno.

Before you toss it try some of the tips.

Try using a mascara warmer.
You can get this on Amazon.

If you don't want to spend the cash on a gadget you can also run your mascara tube under warm water
or into a cup of warm water for 30 seconds to 1 minute right before you use it.

You can also make a dry formula more fluid by adding 2-4 drops of regular eye drops or baby oil!

Have you tried any of these tips before? Which worked best for you?

Why I broke up with Sulfates

Sulfates and I have been together since before I can remember. Sulfates were familiar, easy, and made me miserable! The biggest problem was that I had no idea the sulfates were the cause of my melancholy. I blamed everything else, brands, water, and dry skin. It was a little over 2 years ago I saw the light and snapped out of my sulfate stockholm syndrome.

What are sulfates?
Sulfates are bonding agents and emulsifiers. This is what makes the products lather, bubble, and spread.

What are sulfates in?
Shampoo
very few conditioners
body wash
facial cleanser
toothpaste
laundry detergent
hand soaps
body scrubs
vitamins
household cleanser
and many other things

Why did we break up?
To make a long story short, showering was torture. I know that sounds a little dramatic but trust me, it was awful. While showering my eyes and throat would burn and if I was in there for too long my chest would start to ache. Seconds after leaving the shower my skin would itch and sting  like a thousand ants were crawling around biting me.

Over time my symptoms became worse and worse. I tried showering in cold water, using water softeners, using expensive salon brands nothing was working.

After years and years of dealing with this I finally figured out there must be something in these products causing this to happen.

I went though all the barely used products in my beauty graveyard and started looking for common ingredients (there were surprisingly few). After googleing the common ingredients, I learned sulfates dirty little secrets.

What are sulfates bad?
Sulfates are too harsh for our bodies and they are over used in many products.Sulfates dry out and irritate your skin, scalp and hair. It can cause dandruff and split ends.

The other tricky secret?
It goes by other names!
 SLS
 SLES
SMS
SDS

Finding sulfate free products is a huge pain, but it has made all the difference in my everyday life. I actually enjoy my shower time, my skin is silky soft (without lotion) my hair is in the best condition it has ever been in and best of all I don't feel like I need to be locked into a straight jacket to keep from itching my skin.           It just doesn't itch!

Below are a few lists of sulfate free shampoos for reference if you are thinking about going SLS free <3

Mascara Monday #2 Prolonging Your Mascara's Life

Welcome back to Mascara Monday!  Today's tips touch on how to prolong the life of your mascara.

Bacteria is mascaras mortal enemy. Once bacteria has taken over, there is nothing that can save it. The good news is there are ways to prolong your mascara's dark fate.

Tip 1
Always apply mascara to freshly cleansed face, to keep as much bacteria out of your mascara as possible.

Tip 2
Store your mascara in an even climate room that doesn't get too hot and steamy. Prolonged exposure to excessive warmth aides in the multiplication of bacteria.

Good storage: A hall closet or bedroom that stays cool throughout the year
Poor Storage: Your car or bathroom

Tip 3
Don't ever, ever, ever share your mascara. Not even with your mama. Each of us already have our own bacteria hanging out on our eyelashes that our bodies are used to, throw in someone elses bacteria and you are just asking for an eye infection.

Tip 4
Don't pump the wand in and out of the tube this can dry out your mascara faster and allows bacteria grow faster.

 Tip 5
Don't wipe the excess mascara on the top of the tube. These clumps of mascara dry out and then end up on the wand and in the tube which adds more bacteria and can make your lashes look like a flaky mess. Instead wipe the tip off on a baby wipe or tissue and make sure the tube's top is clean as well.

How do you prolong your mascara's life?

Fire stole my home.

I come to you with a heavy heart today. Two nights ago my husband and I barely escaped our home with our lives. We've lost everything in an apartment fire that stsrted in our neighboors apartment. While we feel so incredibly fortunate to be alive, we have lost everything. We are not the type to ask for anthing, but now is not a time to be proud, we need help.

If you can and would like to contribute anything to help us rebuild our lives it would mean the world to us. Any little bit helps. To help us in our time of need please click here.

You can read more about what happened by visiting my  personal facebook page here.

I have a few blogs scheduled to post, but the blog will be on hiatus until we can get back on our feet.

Love you all and hope to be back very soon!
